DONNA WILLIAMS

The WordLoveWorldLove Project in development since 2003, became a reality with the 2006 Avanti Pictures Corporation international independent production of the WordLoveWorldLove Documentary.

The one hour program for broadcast and educational distribution, connects Vancouver children with words, art and film with Sri Lankan children in recovery from the 2004 tsunami. Donna was creator, co-producer, co-writer and production designer for her first major film which was awarded 2007 KIDSFirst Festival, Best Documentary, 2007 Houston International Film Festival, Best Editing, 2007 Calgary International Film Festival, CIDA Beyond Borders Program, opening film, as well as many other honours

Donna was Assistant Art Director for 2006/2007 seasons of the MGM sci- fi TVSeries,Stargate/Atlantis, and TV Series Outer Limits,1997-2000. Her industry experience as Set Designer since 1994 includes theatrical features such as 20th Century Fox sci- fi, IRobot.

After a decade in the Vancouver film industry, she studied documentary film at Vancouver Film School in 2004 with the intent to create unique, offbeat films, which explore both social and children's issues.

steps, a documentary film, about tolerance and skateboarders, was the debut for the filmmaker as Writer, Producer, Director. The film was selected for the 2005 Vancouver Women in Film Summer Shorts Festival and the new filmmaker received the Vancouver Women in Film Mentorship Award that same year. Co-Directing Hope20, a short on Housing the Homeless followed.

Donna is a 1985 Graduate of UBC School of Architecture and a Registered Interior Designer with a decade of residential and commercial design projects to her credit. She is also a published poet and her love for literacy and the creative arts provide the springboard for The WordLoveWorldLove Project. The project, currently in re-development, offers a new opportunity every year to empower children to engage as global citizens in building a kinder, more peaceful future, through their words, art and video.

In 2009 Donna became involved with Ten Thousand Villages, a non-profit, Fair Trade organization that partners with thousands of talented artisans in healthy business relationships. The philosophy of helping to build a sustainable future is based on the principle that trade should have a conscience. Through Fair Trade artisans receive the respect, dignity and hope that come from working hard and earning fair value for their work. Assistant Manager for the last two years of a thriving Vancouver location, Donna begins her sixth year with this company which aligns with the vision of The WordLoveWorldLove Project, honouring and valuing the creativity of artists, as a vital, powerful element of communication in all it's forms.
