  GLOBAL GALLERY

The WordLove project based on the power of words, visual art, and films, acts as a vehicle for reaching audiences. Art therapy drawings from children who have experienced crisis helps build awareness of their situation. In the original WordLove film the descriptive illustrations from young survivors of the 2004 tsunami, acted as a catalyst for the Canadian students to choose compassionate words. In WordLoveAfrica we will be using drawings from AIDS orphaned children.

The act of making art is therapeutic. Art therapy consultant Erica Krutzen explains how art is useful to children, who following a crisis, cannot express their thoughts and feelings verbally.

An essential part of the WordLove process is exhibiting the students words and art.  By presenting their work, students gain self esteem and confidence. Students’ artwork/word exchange will be exhibited online, and in an annual exhibit in Vancouver, British Columbia.
